⚠️ Important: Permanent Deletion
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. All your data will be immediately and permanently deleted. Please read this information carefully before proceeding.
What Gets Deleted
When you delete your account, the following data will be permanently deleted:
- All journal entries - All text, moods, and timestamps
- All personal reflections - Your reflections on Bible verses
- Account information - Email, display name, profile data
- Settings and preferences - All app settings and configurations
- Saved verses - Any verses you've saved or favorited
- Usage data - Analytics and interaction data
- Device identification data - All device identifiers and hashed device IDs associated with your account
- Deleted items - Even items in your deleted folder
Note on Device Identification: We use anonymous device identifiers (UUID v4) that are hashed with SHA-256 before being sent to our servers. Mobile apps store these in AsyncStorage, and web apps store them in localStorage. Only hashed versions are sent to our backend. All device identification data is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
This deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no recovery period for account deletion.
Before You Delete
⚠️ We strongly recommend:
- Download your data first - Export all your journal entries and reflections
- Review your entries - Make sure you have copies of anything important
- Consider alternatives - You can delete individual entries without deleting your account
Once your account is deleted, you will not be able to recover any of your data, even if you create a new account later.
How to Delete Your Account
Account deletion must be performed on the web app for security reasons. Follow these steps:
- Log in to your account on the web app
- Navigate to Data Management - Click "Data & Privacy Management" from the home page, or visit /data-management
- Click "Delete My Account" - This will take you to the account deletion page
- Type "DELETE" to confirm - This is required to prevent accidental deletion
- Confirm the deletion - You'll be asked to confirm one more time
- Your account will be deleted immediately - You'll be signed out and redirected to the login page
Security Measures
We've implemented several security measures to protect you:
- Web-only deletion - Account deletion must be performed on the web app (not mobile)
- Re-authentication required - You must be logged in to delete your account
- Confirmation required - You must type "DELETE" to confirm
- Multiple warnings - Clear warnings about permanent deletion
After Deletion
After your account is deleted:
- You will be immediately signed out
- All your data will be permanently deleted
- You can create a new account, but your previous data will not be restored
- We do not retain any backup copies of your data
Alternative Options
Before deleting your account, consider these alternatives:
- Delete individual entries - You can delete specific journal entries without deleting your account
- Take a break - You can simply stop using the app without deleting your account
- Download your data - Export your data and keep it, even if you stop using the app
Data Recovery
Account deletion is permanent and irreversible. We do not retain any data after account deletion, and we cannot recover deleted accounts or their data. If you have any concerns about deleting your account, please download your data first or contact us for assistance.
